Improvisation Mode
Byron and I have been brainstorming the best practice experiences for learning improvisation (to support an upcoming course). We’d like to explore the possibility of having blank measures but having a set of possible correct notes that could get scored. For example, let’s say the user learns that any white key would sound good over a certain chord progression. The follow up practice could be the progression in the backing track, and the user could play any white key and it would be marked correct. Any black key would be marked wrong. Wondering if something like that would be possible or a non starter.

Along these lines, create practice for say a blues scale. Then you can create a track that we can practice over using that scale. For example, The Thrill is Gone is in B minor blues. On guitar i can jam over this and now i am doing it on the piano. What we need to see for a song really are the chords going by to understand where we are in the song. I do this with chordify. But you could really take this a step further with say the left hand score and have the right hand melody not written in so that user can improvise that part.
