Buttons in introductory dialogs display overlayed "tags" marked with letters
MacBook Pro (16-inch 2021), Apple M1 Max chip, running Monterey. Although this is only a cosmetic defect, it looks pretty strange. The letter 'C' is displayed on Previous buttons, 'D' on Next Buttons, and 'B' next to the 'X' in the upper-right corner of the dialogs used to exit the windows. Each letter is displayed within an icon that looks like a "tag". These letters don't seem to act as shortcut keys, but clicking on the tags does trigger their associated buttons.

Thanks, Ron! I tried the computer keyboard, but didn't think to try the piano keyboard.

They are the notes that can be played on the piano keyboard to navigate, although that wasn't immediately obvious to me!
